What we are about

Wapello County Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the  gathering, processing and maintaining of information for our library. The library is for the use of the members and other persons who are interested in searching and finding accurate information about their families and ancestors or other historical data. It is primarily directed toward Wapello County residents and their families, but also has information on surrounding counties and other states available. Research help is available or the task can be accomplished for interested persons for a nominal donation.

Thursday, Friday, & Saturday 12 noon to 3:30 pm 
We are closed the following holidays: New Years, Easter week-end including Good Friday, Memorial Day week-end, 4th of July week-end, Labor Day week-end, Octoberfest week-end, Thanksgiving week-end, Christmas Day thriugh New-Years, and Souper Thursday in March & Spagetti Dinner Day in October. (See "Events" page for exact dates)


Board Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am in the library unless posted otherwise.

The library is on the second floor of the Wapello Historical Museum in the Amtrak Depot @ 210 West Main in Ottumwa, Iowa.
****The Historical Museum is not responsible for operational hours or staffing of the Genealogical Library*******************
A computer is available at a $1 per hour fee for members and non-members for internet searches
(one hour use limit if others are waiting). Usage guidelines must be adheered too.
Computer use policy/guidelines are posted in the library and on a seperate page on this web-site.
